Meet your coaches

Tom Bresnahan, 59
That win grew into a decade-long practice, guiding hundreds of families toward firm boundaries, united parenting, and self-driven sons.
Now, as Momentum’s Co-Founder & Lead Coach, Tom is scaling his proven system so families get help sooner. Backed by 15 years in recovery counseling and family-systems work, he offers more than advice: Momentum delivers the structure, brotherhood, and measured push that turns potential into real-world momentum.
Alex Milligan, 32
What he needed wasn’t more advice. It was structure, accountability, and a group of peers to grow with. Over time, he found his way, but it was a slow, painful, and lonely process. His story isn’t rare.
I started Momentum to build the program he, and so many others, never had. We’re here to help young men rebuild not just their habits, but their belief in who they can become.

Dr. Jeff Chen, 36
What no one tells you is that doing hard things never really gets easier, you just get better at doing them. It’s a skill like anything else. You learn to keep showing up and to move forward even when motivation fades.
That’s why I coach. love helping young men find clarity, build conviction, and realize they’re capable of more than they’ve been led to believe. To do the work is hard. But so is staying stuck. And one of those actually leads somewhere.
What's the program like?
Building Foundations
We start by shifting the parent’s role—breaking old cycles of enabling and setting a strong base for progress.
- Clarity Audit: guided reflection on boundaries, finances, and enabling behaviors
- Family Systems Mapping: identify patterns that keep your child dependent
- Boundary Basics: scripts for saying no, holding limits, and stopping rescuing behaviors
- Stress Reset Tools: quick practices to lower parent anxiety in tough moments
- Accountability Check-ins: early wins tracked with your coach to build momentum
Learn Accountability and Skills
You’ll begin putting new strategies into practice at home and learning how to hold firm without constant conflict.
- Live Roleplays: practice tough conversations with your coach before real-life use
- Boundary Implementation: introduce 1–2 non-negotiables (e.g., chores, rent, screen time)
- Conflict De-escalation: learn scripts for staying calm when your son pushes back
- Shared Parent Coaching Circle: group call with other parents to swap strategies and support
- Progress Tracking: review how your child responds when the rules shift and refine as needed
Real-World Application
This phase focuses on reducing stress in the home and creating an environment that promotes your child’s independence.
- Family Stress Audit: uncover hotspots where arguments or tension repeat
- Repair & Realign: tools for improving communication with spouse/partner and siblings
- Consistency Coaching: strategies to stop “backsliding” on limits or mixed messaging between parents
- Natural Consequences Training: practice letting your son face outcomes without rescuing him
- Community Learning: learn from alumni parents who’ve successfully navigated this stage
Launch and Thrive
The final phase is about solidifying gains and setting a plan that sustains change long after the 8 weeks end.
- Launch Plan: finalize financial boundaries, living arrangements, and expectations moving forward
- Independence Milestones: create a checklist for your son (work, school, responsibilities) that you enforce with consistency
- Parent Growth Review: compare Week 1 vs Week 8 to track your own transformation and reduced stress
- Future Supports: choose ongoing accountability options (coach check-ins, group calls, or alumni network)
- Celebrating Wins: reflect on progress as a family and reinforce the path to continued growth
Frequently asked questions
Momentum is a parent coaching program designed for families with adult children who are “stuck.” Instead of trying to fix your son directly, we work with you, the parent, to shift patterns, set healthy boundaries, and create the conditions where independence is the only option.
Momentum is for parents of young adults (typically 18–30) who are struggling with issues like lack of motivation, social isolation, gaming or screen overuse, poor follow-through, or dependence at home. If you’ve tried therapy, nagging, or tough love and nothing has stuck, Momentum gives you a proven playbook that works.
No, the coaching is for parents only. We’ve found that when parents change their approach, their kids are forced to adapt. This makes progress faster, more sustainable, and less stressful than dragging a resistant young adult into sessions.
That’s common, and we help with it. Momentum gives both parents a shared framework and communication strategies so you’re consistent at home. No more good cop/bad cop dynamics, just a unified front.
Most parents notice changes in themselves (less stress, fewer fights, more confidence) within the first few weeks. Shifts in your child’s behavior often follow soon after (sometimes faster than expected) because the family system has changed.
That’s normal, and actually a sign things are shifting. Your coach will guide you step by step through the resistance phase so you don’t cave or revert back to old habits.
Momentum coaches are clinically informed professionals trained in the Failure to Launch framework. But unlike programs that focus on “fixing the kid,” our coaches work directly with parents. They’re carefully selected for expertise in family systems, behavior change, and boundary-setting. Their role is to guide and support you as you shift your approach, so your son is pushed toward independence without constant conflict.
Momentum is available to parents everywhere in the U.S. and Canada. Because our program is online-first, your location never limits access. You’ll meet 1-on-1 with your coach virtually, and connect with other parents through live group sessions. Optional in-person retreats and workshops may be offered in major hubs, but the core program works no matter where you live.
